Public Relations Writing: MASS W434
In this course, we explored the various types of writing assignments related to public relations work. We wrote press/news releases, backgrounders, boilerplates, pitch and confirmation letters, PSAs, and various other types of work. I was able to practice my writing skills as well as sharpened my knowledge of AP style. Not only was this course a way of improving my writing, but I was also able to learn more about the type of work that I would be doing in my future career. Below is a news release that I wrote for this class as well as links to download and view my other assignments for this class.

Principles of Public Relations: MASS 233Throughout this course, we began to learn about the various types of work that public professionals do on a daily basis, the history behind public relations, and different skills that are useful for public relations professionals. For one of our assignments, we created a fictional press release. Below is my fictional press release that discusses the initiatives of the Minnesota Safe Kids Campaign.

Basic Writing for Mass Media: MASS W221This class was part of the course requirements for my Mass Media major. This was the first class that I learned about and practiced AP style. This is a sample of AP writing that I completed in this course. The assignment required me to conduct an interview with myself. We were also required to answer questions about our opinions on the economy and job market.

Throughout my junior year of college, I completed an individual research project that I presented at MNSU's Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) in April 2020. My project was titled the "Study on the portrayal and representation of diversity among Minnesota colleges." I was awarded an Outstanding Presentation Award for my project and presentation.
This research project combined two things that have always interested me, marketing/social media and diversity. For my project, I focused on how six different colleges in Minnesota represent diversity through their visual marketing across emails, social media, print, and other methods. I analyzed over 1,000 types of content across different materials and platforms that helped me reach my conclusion. Not only was I able to build my skills as a researcher, but I was also able to analyze and learn from how different organizations market themselves. As a media professional, I was able to further understand how important it is to be conscious of things such as representation in marketing.
Below is my poster and findings that I presented at the URS. You can learn more about my research experience by clicking this link to my Honors Portfolio reflection: URS Research Project

As well as being an original board member, I also held the position as the public relations coordinator for For Girls' Education, ForGE. This was a campus organization at MNSU that focused on direct philanthropy to support girls' education around the globe. Over the course of three years, we were able to donate thousands of dollars across the world to help girls attend school, conferences, and other such activities to better their lives. My main tasks in this organization were to create flyers and social media content to help spread our message and meeting times. Below are examples of a poster and social media posts that I have created using Canva.
